How to use

Choose "Password" for a random password, "Passphrase" for words that are easier to remember, "PIN" for a number code, or "Check" to test a password you already use.

Set the length (16 or more is a good start) and pick the characters, or tap a quick setting: "Easy to say" (letters only) or "Easy to read" (no look-alikes).

Turn on "Avoid look-alikes" if you will type the password by hand, and add any characters a website does not accept.

Tap "Copy" and paste it where you need it. Tap "New password" for another one, or make five at once to choose from.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a password strong?
Length and randomness. A strong password is at least 16 characters, mixes capital and small letters, numbers and symbols, and is not a word, name, date or keyboard pattern. Using a different password for every account matters just as much: then one leak cannot open your other accounts.
Is it safe to create a password on this website?
Yes. The password is created in your own browser with the secure random generator built into it (Web Crypto), not on our server. It is never sent, saved or logged, and the tool works even with the internet off once the page has loaded.
Password or passphrase: which should I use?
Use a random password when a password manager fills it in for you. Use a passphrase, several random words like "Geel-Biyo-Suuq-Dahab-Roob-Webi-Xidig-Ubax-42", when you must remember or type it, such as for your phone, email or password manager. Eight or more random words is strong.
How is the time to crack worked out?
From the strength in bits (entropy): the number of possible passwords with your settings. The estimate assumes an attacker who has stolen a password database and tries 10 billion guesses a second. Real attacks are often slower, so treat it as a careful guide.
Does "Check a password" send my password anywhere?
No. The check happens on your device only. It looks at length, the kinds of characters, repeats, patterns like "abc" or "123", and very common passwords such as "123456" or "Muqdisho123". If your real password is weak, change it on that website.
How do I choose a safe PIN for my phone or bank card?
Use a random PIN, never your birthday, a year, your phone number or patterns like 1234, 1111 or 1212. These are the first ones a thief tries. The PIN mode here makes random PINs and skips the easy ones automatically. Six digits is much safer than four where it is allowed.
